To escape the heat, go see Samson

Anyone who knows me knows I’m not a fan of summer. I can just look outside and start sweating. And don’t even get me started on the bugs. So, even though submerging in beautiful Bull Shoals Lake or my parents’ swimming pool helps, at times I often search for fun things to do in the air conditioning.
I love how we are so blessed with the gorgeous rivers, lakes, hiking, but these past couple scorching weekends I have been thrilled that we are all close to amazing air-conditioned entertainment. People come from all over the world to visit Branson, and here we are only an hour away from it. A few weeks ago my husband Zack and I decided to take our kids to see the show Samson at the Sight and Sound Theatre in Branson. We’ve been to the Sight and Sound performances before to see Jonah and Moses, and to be honest, I was a little worried that the 2 1/2-hour-long show might be a little too long for our 4-year-old daughter, Ezra. But boy, was I wrong. We all loved it! The songs were amazing, the stage was bright and colorful and the kids loved seeing all the live animals (34, to be exact). There is also a good 15-minute intermission so you can stretch your legs and get a snack.
Samson just happens to be my 10-year-old son Zeke’s favorite Bible story, and Sight and Sound told the story really well. There is one riveting scene where Samson pushes against two columns, and that causes 12 other columns, each 28 feet tall, to topple right at the audience. It feels so real they have to assure the audience beforehand that they will not be harmed.
I don’t want to give anything away, but if you’re looking for a family-friendly thing to do in this crazy heat, our family highly recommends visiting this show. Tickets can be purchased at sight-sound.com or call 1-800-377-1277.
