Velma Jane Robinson, 80

A memorial service for Velma Jane Robinson, 80, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, was held Oct. 25, 2020, at Baxter Memorial Gardens in Mountain Home with Brother Roger Daniel officiating. Mrs. Robinson died Oct. 21.

She was born June 11, 1940, in West Plains, the daughter of Crawford and Gertha Gillbert Hicks.

On March 25, 1964, she married Bobby Robinson, who says it was the best day of his life.

The Robinsons lived just south of the Missouri-Arkansas line, and for several years they  attended Mammoth Assembly of God south of Gainesville. In recent years, she was a faithful member of Zion Freewill Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Clarkridge (Arkansas) Fire Bells, playing her guitar and fire bells at any event they attended. She taught herself how to play the guitar by ear, and she was very good at it. She worked as a drapery maker and seamstress and made many pieces over the years. She was a talented, self-taught woman.

She is survived by her loving husband, Bobby; her sister, Lois Ellison of West Plains; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, Johnny, and Estella Gillbert; four brothers, Johnny Ray Hicks, Louis Hicks, Chester Hicks and Norman Hicks; and one sister, Allie Butcher.
