Shirley Still McAlister, 76

A celebration of the life of Shirley Sylvia Still McAlister, 76, of Green Forest, Arkansas, was held May 14, 2021, at Smith Family Funeral Home in Green Forest with Brother Billy Williams officiating. Mrs. McAlister died May 11 at her home.

She was born Aug. 12, 1944, in Wheaton, Missouri, the daughter of Vernon Harding Still and Sylvia Marie Ridenour Still. On June 1, 2011, she married Don McAlister.

Mrs. McAlister spent her life as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend. She attended school up to her junior year in Wheaton; then her family moved to Green Forest, and she finished high school here, graduating in 1962. From there she went on to cosmetology school and worked as a beautician for several years. She was also a teacher’s aide for the Berryville Head Start Program and eventually retired from the Learning Center in Green Forest.

She was a member of the Green Forest Cowboy Church and enjoyed being a leader of a team of the Mercy Riders, a group that helped with fundraising for community and church members in need. Her favorite pastime was camping with her husband, Don. She also enjoyed baking pies, canning, cooking and making her famous apple-butter jelly that her children and grandchildren loved. She enjoyed yard sales, both hunting bargains and having them, and selling “anything that wasn’t nailed down.” She loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by Don McAlister, her husband of 20 years, of the home; four children, Terri Dickinson and husband Randall of Oak Grove, Arkansas, Tammi McCutchen and husband Gary of Harrison, Arkansas, Kevin Meek and wife Chrystal of Gainesville, and Jason Davidson and wife Stacey of Green Forest; one brother, Gary Still and wife Sissy of Rocky Comfort, Missouri; one sister, Becky Kimbrough and husband Danny of Longview, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and many good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Verna Jean Still, all formerly of Wheaton.

Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery near Green Forest. Online condolences may be expressed at smithfamilyfuneralhome.net.
