Jonas Robert Smith, 89

 

A memorial service for Jonas Robert Smith, 89, of Price Place, Arkansas, was held Aug. 23, 2021, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville with Pastor Walter Rogero officiating. Mr. Smith died peacefully at his home on Aug. 17.

He was born Dec. 25, 1931, in Rattan, Oklahoma, the son of Jake and Emily Marshall Smith. After relocating to California with his parents, he attended school, worked and joined the Army. He was honorably discharged in 1951.

On March 21, 1955, in Lamont, California, he married Jennie Marie Cobbs, and together they raised five children: Terry, Danny, Joe, Ricky, and Debbie. For 33 years, Mr. Smith worked as plant manager for WL Research, a seed-processing company, alongside his wife. After retirement, in 1994, they relocated to the Ozarks, where Mr. Smith enjoyed fishing, gardening, canning, making jelly, hunting, playing cards and spending time with his family. He loved to tell stories of his life and give advice to everyone, whether or not they wanted it. 

He is survived by his son, Robert Joe Smith, and daughter, Debra Lynn Garcia and husband Louis, all of Price Place; his sister, Mary White of Theodosia; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by Jennie Marie Smith, his wife of 53 years; his parents; brothers Harvey, Albert, Charlie and Curtis Smith; sons Terry, Danny and Ricky Smith; and one grandson, Ryan Michael Hardison.
