Donald ‘Don’ Freeman, 86

Donald Lee Freeman, 86, of Squires, died peacefully at his home on Aug. 22, 2021, with all his family by his side. A family and friends memorial service will be held at a later date.

He was born Dec. 5, 1934, in Circleville, Kansas, the son of James Edward and Mary Lucinda Ketchercide Freeman. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1952 and served in the Army from 1954 to 1957. 

On Nov. 7, 1959, he married Norma Jean Turner in the preacher’s house at Piland Youth Camp in Thornfield. 

Mr. Freeman was a Christian, and he and Mrs. Freeman attended the Thornfield Missionary Baptist Church. He was a retired truck driver and continued farming as long as he could. He enjoyed white bass fish fries, getting on the tractor and brush hogging, doing mechanic work, tending the farm and, most of all, being with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Norma, of the home; five children, Terry Wayne Freeman, Sylvia June Freeman, Kay Huff, Jimmy Freeman and Jeff Freeman; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; caregiver Cindy Ingram; and other relatives and friends.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Twila and Melissa Ann; two infants, Marsha and Charles; and six brothers and sister.
