Dick Coatney, 92

Funeral services for Dick Coatney, 92, of Pontiac will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2023, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville. Burial will be in the Pontiac Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be Friday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

He died March 11, 2023, at his home with his wife, Ann by his side.

Dick was born Sept. 19, 1930, in Cabool, to Charles and Daisey (Atcheson) Coatney.

Upon graduating from Gainesville High School in 1949, he went with several buddies to work in Kansas City.  He then decided  that wasn’t enough pay and went to work on the pipeline until 1962, when he joined the Navy.  After serving his four years, he hitchhiked home from Virginia. When he arrived back home, he bought a 1957 Chevy Bel Air and then began picking buddies up that he had worked on the pipeline with and traveled to jobs again. Dick finished his pipeline career working on the Alaskan Pipeline after his mother had a heart attack and he had to return home to help take care of her. He then began operating his dozing business and running his farm.

Dick and Nora “Ann” Hackler were united in marriage on April 25, 1985, in Mountain Home, Arkansas.

Dick enjoyed working on his farm and running his dozer. He raised cattle and hogs for many years.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Charlotte.

Dick is survived by his wife, Ann; three step-children and their spouses, Debbie and Charlie Roethler, Teresa Kimmer, and Larry and Trisha Willbanks; six grandchildren, Valarie, Eric, Christine, Hailey, Madison, and Arinne; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Alyssa; four sisters, Elva, Lavita, Frieda, and Retha; one brother, Denny; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
