David Niemi, 78

David Eino Niemi, 78 years, 6 months, 24 days old, passed away on July 27, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, with his family by his side.

David was born January 3, 1944, in Houghton, Michigan, to Emil Eino and Sally (Takalo) Niemi. He was raised and confirmed a Lutheran.

On April 19, 1980, David and Mary Ann Snyder Adams were united in marriage at Antioch, California. He served many years on the Church Council at Ava Trinity Lutheran Church.  

He was a retired Supervisor with General Motors with over 35 years of service in both California and Kansas. David and Mary Ann moved to Wasola in 1997. Living in the community, he also worked at Rawlings Sporting Goods and Emerson/Copeland for seven years. He enjoyed working on cars, fishing, boating, scuba diving and rescuing all animals. His joy was being with his children and grandchildren.  

David was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Thomas and Donald Niemi; and a sister, Bethany Balducci. 

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his first wife, Kathleen Anderson and the mother of Patrick, David and Roy; six children and their spouses, Patrick and Geneva Niemi of Koshkonong, Missouri, Michele and Charles Allen of Wilmington, Massachussetts, Craig and Ivy Adams of Poulsbo, Washington, David and Kelly Niemi of Liberty, Missouri, Mark Adams of Gladstone, Missouri, and Roy and Stephanie Niemi of Clarksville, Indiana; grandchildren, Mitchell and Andrea King and family, Richele Allen, Andrew and Ashley Niemi, Nicole Allen, Ian Niemi, Kaley Tredway, Kelsie and Collin Redenbaugh, Savannah Adams, Aidan Niemi, Scott Adams, and Gracen Niemi; his brother, Richard and Ann Niemi; sisters-in-laws, Carole Niemi and Susie Niemi; and brother-in-law, Richard Balducci; many nieces and nephews. 

David was an organ and tissue donor for the Mid America Transplant Center.        

A Celebration Of Life for David will be Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 2 p.m. with visitation starting at 1 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, with Rev. Wayne Strohschein officiating. His burial will be in Houghton, Michigan. In lieu of flowers family requests memorials to the Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 1107, Ava, 65608 or to a favorite local animal shelter.
