Alene Turner, 95

Funeral services for Alene Turner, 95, of Thornfield, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 20, 2021, at the Thornfield Cemetery Chapel in Thornfield with Bruce DeWeese officiating. Mrs. Turner died quietly at her home on Jan. 18 with family members by her side. 

She was born June 17, 1925, in Thornfield, the daughter of Hobert and Leta Barner Lawson. On Nov. 19, 1944, she married Ancil Turner.

Mrs. Turner was a homemaker who always had children in her home. She raised six children and babysat grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a Christian and a member of Thornfield Southern Baptist Church. She loved to go to church and sing.

She is survived by her children, Gail Reich, Johnnie Turner and Gier Turner, all of Gainesville, Larry Turner and wife Lora of Mansfield, and Jamie Wyman and husband Keith of Thornfield; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren (and another due in April); one sister, Virginia Pugh and husband Rick of Wichita, Kansas; her brother-in-law Ardith Turner of Springfield, and sister-in-law Norma Freeman and husband Don of Squires.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ancil Turner; one daughter, Evelyn Sue Bennett; brothers Arnold Lawson and Leonard Lawson; and one daughter-in-law Phyllis Turner.

Burial will be in the Thornfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Thornfield Cemetery or the Gideons.
