Wonders of Christmas festival is Friday: Contest open to 4- and 5-year old children will be held in gazebo at 6 p.m.

2021 Mr. and Miss Merry Christmas Amanda Thomas and Zander Zubrod

The annual Mr. and Miss Merry Christmas contest, open to 4- and 5-year-old girls and boys, will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at the gazebo on the square during Gainesville’s Wonders of Christmas festival and parade.

The deadline to sign up has passed, and registration is therefore closed. There are 12 kids participating this year

During the contest, participants will line up on stage and answer four or five “gentle questions” that are appropriate for 4- and 5-year-olds, Zubrod said. In the past, the emcee has asked questions that include “How many brothers or sisters do you have? Do you have any pets? What’s your favorite thing about Christmas?”

The boys and girls are then invited to do something special, like a song or joke, at the end of their interview. It is not required though.

All participants will receive a gift. Mr. and Miss Merry Christmas will be awarded a tiara and crown in addition to their gift.

After the contest, Mr. and Miss Merry Christmas are invited to ride in a car in the Jingle Bell Parade, which begins at 7 p.m.
