Gainesville City Park gate will be closed in off hours

A gate at the Gainesville city-owned Hoerman Memorial Park will be closed during off hours of 5 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. during the winter months.

The city of Gainesville is now enforcing open and closed park hours at the Hoerman Memorial Park.

City Councilwoman Lana Bushong said at this month’s council meeting that the park gate will be closed and locked from 5 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. daily in the winter months. As the daylight hours lengthen in spring and summer, the hours will be adjusted, leaving the park open to patrons until 9 p.m. The city council will handle closing the gate each night, she said.

The Hoerman Memorial park is operated by the city of Gainesville and is located on Highway 160 next to the Gainesville Elementary school. It features several pieces of playground equipment, a pavilion, benches, grills and sits adjacent to the Gainesville School’s pickle ball courts, tennis court, basketball court, asphalt track and wooded hiking trail, all available to for public use.
