Filing for April 2018 election continues through Jan. 16

The filing period for candidates wishing to run in the April 3, 2018, general municipal election for seats on school, municipal and other public boards continues until 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018.

 

Municipal, public boards

Candidates are invited to file for positions coming open on these municipal and public boards:

City of Bakersfield: Three two-year terms are coming open, seats currently held by Tny Johnson, Albert Gargione and Jodi Burns. At press time, no one had filed. Candidates wishing to file should call 284-7238 or 284-1626. 

City of Gainesville: Two-year terms currently held by  Deanna Gail Reich, mayor; Rocky Sullivan, west ward; Lee Bowen, center ward; Lyndell Strong, east ward are expiring.  Candi-dates may file at City Hall from 8 a.m. to noon and from 12:30 to 4:30 weekdays through Jan. 16, 2018, except for holidays when City Hall is closed. 

Village of Theodosia Board of Trustees:  Three two-year terms are coming open. Candidates may obtain and submit applications at Theodosia Village Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays except Wednesdays and holidays or by calling Judy Lowe at 273-0092. Council members whose terms are expiring are Jim Brown, Bob Bochert and Randall Unruh. So far, incumbent Brown and another candidate, Jerry Smith, have filed.

Public Water Supply District No. 1 in Theodosia: The three-year terms currently held by Allen Edgington and Suzanne Meeks are expiring.  Candi-dates may file at the water district office, 85 Westwood in Theodosia. To be eligible, candidates must be a registered voter who resides in the district, have no delinquent taxes, be at least 25 years old and must have resided in the sub-district they wish to represent for at least one year prior to election. School boards

Two three-year positions are coming open on all five Ozark County School districts. School board candidates may file at the school in the district where they live.

Bakersfield: The seats currently held by Scott Denton and Mike Scott are coming open. At press time, Mike Scott had filed for re-election. Candidates may file from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the school on days when classes are in session.

Dora: The seats currently held by Terry  Martin and Robert Lee are coming open. Candidates may file at the school from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on days when school is in session. 

Gainesville: The seats currently held by Billy Pippin and Wes Uchtman are coming open. Candidates may file at the high school from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on days when school is in session. Ballot order will be determined by the order of filing.

Lutie: The seats currently held by Jan Conklin and Carl Kruger are coming open. Candidates may file from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. when school is in session. 

Thornfield: The seats currently held by Darrin Clayton and Jerry Donley are coming open. Candidates may file at the school between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on days when school is in session.

 

Primary election filing opens Feb. 27, 2018

 

The filing period for candidates wishing to run in the Aug. 7, 2018, primary election begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018. Offices up for election in 2018 include associate circuit judge, presiding county commissioner, county clerk, clerk of circuit court and recorder of deeds, county treasurer and county collector. 

The Missouri Secretary of State website says candidates who file for the primary election on the first day by 5 p.m. will select a number by random drawing. “The random number drawn determines the candidate’s primary ballot placement. After the first day, candidates are placed on the ballot in the order of their filing.”

Candidates may file in the office of Ozark County Clerk Brian Wise in the courthouse. The filing period for the primary election continues until 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2018. For more information, call the clerk’s office at 679-3516.
