County updates mitigation plan

Ozark County Commissioners voted to update the county’s hazardous mitigation plan, a routine task commissioners do every five years. The Ozark County Multijurisdictional Local Hazardous Mitigation Plan is something that is prepared for the county by South Central Ozarks Council of Government (SCOCOG).

Presiding Commissioner John Turner said the updated plan is required for FEMA and other grants and similar funding.

Commissioners also voted to be a sub-applicant for a Community Development Block Grant for Christos House, a battered women’s shelter in Howell County that serves Ozark and other area counties.

County Clerk Brian Wise pointed out that no money is involved and no money goes through Ozark County as being a sub-applicant, but that it is something that Christos House requires of all the counties it serves.

Turner said the commission will not meet on Dec. 26 due to the Christmas holiday. The courthouse will be closed Dec. 26, and the regular weekly meeting of the county commission will be at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27.

Commission meetings are open to the public and are held on the second floor of the Ozark County Courthouse.

The Dec. 27 meeting will be the last meeting for outgoing presiding commissioner John Turner, who lost a re-election bid in the Republican primary to Terry Newton. Newton will be sworn in on Dec. 30.
