Gainesville school district holds year-end events next week

The Gainesville School District will be busy next week as students and families gather for year-end events that were adapted and postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic concerns.

Prom is Monday, June 15

Gainesville High School’s prom will be held from  7 to 11 p.m. Monday, June 15, in the gym with the 2020 theme “Enchanted Evening.” The prom committee, headed up by Chelsey Gilmore, Stephanie Oswald and Cheyenne Nash, will decorate the gym for the event, and music will be provided by DJ Peace of Mountain Home, Arkansas. A dinner catered by Cedar Chandeliers of Ava will be served featuring a choice of a brisket or chicken entree with two sides, salad, rolls and dessert. The meal will be served by staff members to ensure proper safety precautions are taken. Gary Armstrong Photography will be on site taking prom photos available for purchase with packages ranging from $10 to $16. Visit the Gainesville R-V School District Facebook page for more information on the photo packages.

Baccalaureate, Wednesday, June 17

Gainesville High School’s senior baccalaureate service and senior awards ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, in the high school gym.

Elementary graduations, Thursday, June 18

Graduation ceremonies for Gainesville Elementary School’s kindergarten and sixth grade classes will be held Thursday, June 18, in the Benton Breeding Stadium at the Gainesville track.

Kindergarten graduation will begin at 6 p.m., and sixth grade graduation will begin at 7 p.m. Attendees are asked to be seated before the ceremonies begin, so the programs can begin promptly.

Students should be dropped off at the back doors of the elementary gym (kindergarteners at 5:40 p.m. and sixth graders at 6:40 p.m.) 20 minutes before the ceremonys starts so teachers can help students put their caps and gowns on and gather for a photo. Parents are not allowed to enter the gym with their children. Teachers will assist students in walking from the drop off point to the football field in class groups.

All friends and family are invited to the outdoor ceremony. In the event of inclement weather, the guest list will be limited to immediate family only, and the ceremonies will move indoors.

After the ceremonies, parents need to check students out from their seats. They will be released one class at a time. Parents are asked to stay seated until each child's class is dismissed to avoid confusion. Parents will be able to take photos with their students in their caps and gowns before they leave, but school officials ask that kindergarten caps are returned.

Graduation photos will be available from Karla Smith Photography. There are two photo packages. Package A consists of two 5x7 photos and four wallets for $15. Package B consists of 1 8x10 photo for $10. Order forms will be available the night of graduation.

High school graduation, June 19

Gainesville High School’s graduation will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 19, in Benton Breeding Stadium.

Project Graduation was canceled this year due to concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Money raised for the event will be distributed to seniors based on points earned throughout the year. The funds will be given to the seniors at a reception in the cafeteria following graduation. Refresh-ments and cake will be served, and everyone who attends will receive a Project Graduation gift.
