Shelter Insurance awards scholarships

Heather Marie Carroll

The  Shelter Insurance Foundation recently awarded a $2,000 scholarship to Dora High School graduate Heather Marie Carroll. Shelter Agent Terry Newton sponsors and partially funds this scholarship and also a scholarship presented to Willow High School graduate Ezekial John Webb. The scholarship is paid directly to the school the recipient selects, and he or she can direct the scholarship funds toward tuition, fees or campus housing for any course of study leading to an academic degree at any accredited college or university. A committee of local high school officials and community leaders selected the recipients after considering each applicant’s scholastic achievements, educational goals, citizenship, moral character and participation and leadership in school and community activities. The scholarship is given without regard to race, disability, religion, national origin or gender of applicants. Both Webb and Carroll received certificates from Newton on behalf of the Shelter Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation for charitable and educational purposes sponsored by the Shelter Insurance Companies, which offer auto, home, life, farm and business insurance services to customers in 14 states via a network of local insurance agents. The company is headquartered in Columbia.
