Election updates: Governor Parson resets April 7 election for June 2

Ozark Countians will have the opportunity to vote in three elections this year, including  the General Municipal Election, which was originally set for April 7 but due to COVID-19 concerns has been rescheduled to June 2. 

The other elections are the Aug. 7 primary and the Nov. 3 general election, which includes the presidential election. 

Note that the Ozark County Courthouse is now closed to the public, and special arrangements must be made for candidates wishing to file for office and for those wishing to register to vote or cast absentee ballots at the courthouse. 

 

General Municipal Election date change

Gov. Mike Parson on March 19 announced that the General Municipal Election previously scheduled for April 7 has now been postponed until June 2.

Dates and issues related to candidate filing and absentee voting included in the executive order that changes the election date are listed here:

Voters who are 18 by April 7 will be allowed to vote in the June 2 election.

The deadline for registering to vote in the June 2 election remained at March 11.

The deadline for filing as a write-in candidate for the June 2 election remains at 5 p.m. March 27.

The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot is now May 20. Absentee ballots must be received by the election authority (county clerk) by 7 p.m. June 2.

Military and overseas voters must request a ballot by 5 p.m. May 29, and the deadline for local election authorities to make ballots available to these voters is April 18. Military and overseas ballots must be received by the election authority by June 5.

 

Aug. 7 Primary Election

March 31 is the last day for candidate filing in the Aug. 7 primary. At press time Tuesday, these candidates had filed as candidates, all on the Republican ticket: western district commissioner: Shane D. Ledbetter, Layne Nance and Robert Merriman; eastern district commissioner: Gary Lee Collins and Jay Smith; sheriff: Curtis Dobbs and Cass Martin; assessor: Jama M. Berry, Jennifer Cole and Karen Cunningham; treasurer: Christy Thompson; public administrator: Melinda Abraham; coroner: Gene Britt; surveyor: Matt Wade.

These township committee people had filed: Shelia Dobbs, Pontiac; David Haskins, Jackson; Gary Lee Collins and Layne Nance, Richland; Don Luna and Barbara Luna, West Bridges.

The last day to register to vote in the Aug. 7 primary is July 8.
