GHCC News: Sept. 19, 2018

Hello from our home to yours. We welcome our new employees, Angie Tabor and Joy Hamm. We are excited to have you as part of our team.

To start off last week, Shawn Lewellen and I got out our bread machines on Monday and we made homemade bread. For morning exercises, we did kickball to exercise our legs. We then went to the dining room, where Dorcus Rackley, Edna Hannaford, Norma Grosbeak, Betty Walrath, Jewell Davis, Nettie Sue Hogan, C.L. Sapp, Billy Barnett, Delphia Holmes and a few other residents helped make homemade butter by shaking heavy whipping cream in a jar. We reminisced about how everyone used to make butter and how they did it. Some remembered using a churn while others used a daisy churn or shook a jar. It took about 30 minutes to turn the cream into butter, but we all had a really good time. Park time followed soon after. We always enjoy getting fresh air when we can. In the afternoon we got to taste our homemade bread and butter, and it was a big hit. Everyone loved it!

On Tuesday, we played dominoes in the morning, and Debbie Cobb joined us in the afternoon for Bible study.

We played more dominoes on Wednesday and then went to the TV room to watch Chisum, a good John Wayne classic. After lunch we gathered in the fireplace room and worked on canvas. We melted crayons and made a beautiful sunset with palm trees.

On Thursday, I did manicures for the ladies who wanted their nails done. It was another nice day to enjoy some fresh air, so we went to the park. After lunch we had artist workshop and worked on quilt blocks.

On Friday, we played balloon ball to help with range-of-motion in our arms. Dominoes and walking club came next, and afterward we played Bingo.

Our residents are looking forward to our Hootin an Hollarin trip on Friday. We look forward to seeing you at our booth in front of Anew Church. Our residents have worked hard all year on the crafts they’ll be selling there, and all the proceeds go to our activity fund.
