Pie auction benefiting four families to be held March 10 at Bakersfield High School
A pie auction to benefit four Bakersfield-area families will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 10, in the Jerry Taylor Gym at Bakersfield High School. The event is being organized by the Bakersfield High School chapters of the National Honor Society, FBLA and FCCLA as a community service project to help the families of these Bakersfield-area residents:
• Jacob Watlington, a Bakersfield Middle School student who had an accident while burning trash when something exploded and hit his eye. Several surgeries are needed to save his eye and, it is hoped, to fully restore his eyesight. He is the son of Tim and Anna Watlington.
• Chad O’Dell, father of two students at Bakersfield, who was severely injured in a tree stand accident. O’Dell had a long-term hospital stay and several medical expenses, and will be off work for an extended time.
• Richard Nash, husband of Bakersfield School paraprofessional Daina Nash and father of a Bakersfield High School student, who has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and is undergoing treatment in St. Louis.
• Junior DeLuna, a recent student at Bakersfield, who sustained life-threatening injuries after an accident involving a motorcycle and a van. His condition has required extensive medical care and several months off work. Two of DeLuna’s siblings have also had surgeries.
Donated items may be dropped off in the gym starting at 3 p.m. the day of the auction. All cash, checks and proceeds will be divided equally among the four families, unless specified by the donor. To help all four families, make checks payable to BHS National Honor Society and mail it to the school at P.O. Box 38, Bakersfield, MO 65609. Make sure to include a return address so a receipt can be issued.
