Gainesville XC kicks off season at Fellows Lake

Times photo/Jenny Yarger Gainesville senior Kaitlyn Kahl finished her race in 23:45.99, placing 15th out of 75 runners at the Fellows Lake 5000 Saturday, to bring home her first medal of the season.

The Gainesville High School Bulldogs cross country teams, coached by Gary Emrick and David Murphy, traveled to  Fellows Lake, just north of Springfield,  for their first meet of the season Saturday, Aug. 30.

The meet, hosted by Strafford High School, had runners from 10 schools competing on the course - Springfield Catholic, Strafford, Fordland, Fair Grove, Logan-Rogersville, Ava, Lighthouse Christian, Gainesville and Washburn.

Medals were awarded to the top 20 runners in the varsity races. Gainesville had three varsity runners who  brought home medals from the boys’ and girls’ races - Archer Luna, Jessica Suit and Kaitlyn Kahl. Oliver Daniels medaled in the junior varsity race, finishing seventh with his time of 23:35.81

Gainesville’s next meet is at 4 p.m. at Willow Springs on Thursday, Sept. 11. Ozark County’s Dora and Bakersfield teams will also be competing at the meet.
