CROSS COUNTRY: Gainesville cross country competes at Ava meet... Junior high girls take first, Annabell Snelson wins overall first in 2400m

Gainesville’s junior high and high school cross country teams competed in the Ava Invitational Tuesday, Sept. 24. Sixteen schools from all classes were represented.

The junior high girls placed first in team scoring and were led by medalists Annabell Snelson, who placed first out of 32 runners, and Nina Sponugle, ninth place. “Congratulations to all the girls on another win and to Annabell for an outstanding individual overall win,” said Coach Gary Emrick.

The junior high boys placed fourth in the team awards. They were led by medalist Aiden Thome, fourth place. The varsity girls did not have enough runners to compete for team scoring. Freshman Jessica Suit was the overall second place winner. Senior Alyssa Smith and junior Sarah Klessig each competed very well but landed outside of the medal placing.

The varsity boys team placed sixth in team scoring. They were led by sophomore Archer Luna, senior John Botts-Papcke and senior Isaac Pippin with sub-20-minute performances.

The Bulldogs traveled to Mountain Grove Tuesday, Oct. 1 and will head to School of the Ozarks at Point Loouout on Friday, Oct. 4.
