Falcons fly past Hurley for first win of season

The Dora Falcons varsity basketball team notched their first victory of the year Friday night, rolling past Hurley 70–32 on Dec. 5 to improve to 1–2 on the season.

Dora came out sharp on both ends of the floor, building a steady lead and never letting up. Head coach Stetson Neldon praised the complete-team effort that powered the win.

“Points are great, but we had guys getting rebounds, making plays, getting assists, etc. Great team game,” Neldon said.

The Falcons were led by a pair of standout scoring performances. Blake Uhlmann poured in a game-high 24 points, while Braxton Mayberry followed closely with 22. Cooper Howard added 11, Payton York scored 5, and both Clayton Collins and Braydon Helton finished with 3 apiece. Westin Ledbetter rounded out the scoring with 2.

The strong night continued in junior varsity action, where Dora’s JV squad also delivered an impressive showing, defeating Hurley 34–14 to move to 2–1.

Neldon said he was pleased with the JV group as well. “The JV played really well,” he noted.

Clayton Collins led the way with 14 points, followed by Blayze Collins with 9. Nathan Lorraine added 5, Jacob Martin scored 4, and Jacob Perkins chipped in 2.

Both teams will look to build on the momentum as the season continues.

Dora hosted the Bradleyville Eagles Tuesday. Results of that game were unavailable at press time. The Falcons are holding Homecoming Friday, Dec. 12 (see story, page B1.) They will host Plato with games starting at 6 p.m. that evening. The Falcons will hit the road Tuesday, Dec. 16 to battle the Fordland Eagles.
