Dora man charged after reportedly hitting woman, threatening to burn down house

Greg Hambelton

Greg Broya Hambelton, 52, of Dora, is being held in the Ozark County Jail without bond in a case in which he’s charged with felony harassment and making a terroristic threat, as well as misdemeanor charges of domestic assault, driving with a revoked or suspended license and trespassing. He was scheduled to be arraigned at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7. Details of that court hearing were not available at presstime.

According to the probable cause statement, prepared by Ozark County Deputy Gannan Moss, at 12:24 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, the officer was assigned to a case of a possible harassment and domestic assault.

The officer met with the victim, who said that she and Hambelton had gotten into a verbal argument late Wednesday night at Hodgson Mill, which led him to hit her in the head, knocking off her glasses and hat.

Then two days later, around 5 a.m., she said he parked his truck in her yard and began yelling at her.

“He told her that he would burn her house down with her still inside of it. She believed that he was capable of fulfilling his threats. She told him that she was going to call law enforcement, which made him leave and return home,” Moss’s report says. The officer said the woman said she’d seen Hambelton burn his own house down before, so she took the threat seriously.

Moss went to Hambelton’s residence and arrested him.

“Once we got back to jail, under Miranda, he admitted to hitting her on the head, knocking off her glasses and hat and grabbing her by the arm. He also admitted to threatening to burn down the house the victim is staying in but said he didn’t mean it,” the report says.
