Bakersfield Lions take first in Houston tourney
The Bakersfield Lions won first place in the Houston Tournament this past week, beating Cabool 72-44 in the first round and routing Couch in the championship game 84-48. The Lions are 13-4 on the year.
Meanwhile, the Lady Lions captured second place in the Cabool Tournament, beating Bradleyville and Cabool before losing to Norwood in the championship game.
In the Bradleyville game, the Lady Lions won big 65-47. Callie Smith and Keely Stevens led Bakersfield with 23 points each.
In round two vs. Cabool, the Lady Lions beat the host team 52-33 with Callie Smith again leading the Bakersfield charge with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Keely Stevens netted 12.
Bakersfield lost to Norwood in the first place game, 52-23.
“We shot the ball poorly and Norwood did a good job of taking us out of our offense,” said Bakersfield coach Doug Lansdown.
