B. C. Steele, Dist. Deputy Grand Master of the 32d Masonic District, was here on a visit to the Masonic Lodge at this place the first of the week. Mr. Steele lives in Hartville and is county clerk of Wright County.

Mr. Wright, who lives 12 miles east of this place, had a team of matched horses drown in Bryant at the Hollenshed Ford last Saturday night. He was warned of the danger by his friends before he made the effort. Before they realized the danger, the team and wagon were being carried downstream at a lively rate. Birdsong, who was in the wagon with Mr. Wright, jumped out over the hind end-gate and swam to land. Not until all hopes of saving the horses faded did Mr. Wright go ashore after narrowly escaping being drowned himself.

Little Everett, the 9-year-old son of W. W. Luna, has a pretty fair idea how printing ink smells. He painted himself up in great shape last week while helping us. While he was painted, he went on the “war path” to be a printer!

Mr. Frank Morris of Rockbridge came over the latter part of last week to bring Miss Lou Bolger and his sister, Miss Alta Morris, back to school. They were also accompanied by Mrs. Edgar Morris who came to attend the Teachers’ Association and visit her friends.

Grandma Amyx, mother of M. K. Amyx of Pine Creek, died on the 19th.

Married last night at the residence of the bride in Gainesville, Mr. George Clark and Mrs. Martha Mangum, Squire W. S. Reynolds officiating.

We are going to have an entertainment and an “old time” spelling match at the Lilly Ridge schoolhouse on Saturday night, April 6. Everyone is cordially invited, especially the Co. Supt. and the schoolteachers. Lilly Ridge has some good spellers. F. C. Terry, Teacher.

Nottinghill – Isaac Capehart, his son Willie and Johnnie Wright went fishing Wednesday night. It commenced raining, and they spent the night in J. C. Baker’s barn. The next morning when they reached the second creek, it was almost past fording. Ike’s horse got into swimming water, got frightened and threw him and Willie into the water. It was so swift, they had to swim back to the side they started from. Their horse crossed and went home. . . Ike didn’t care for his ice cold bath or the loss of his hat and a quilt, but he is grieving over the loss of his fish.

Hammond – If you want a drink of good well water, call at Shorty Bradshaw’s.

Clarence Sallee has been engaged to teach the Turkey Creek school, Herman Peters at True Vine and Wilson Nance at Shilo.

Center Point – Quite a few motored over to Theodosia Sunday evening to cross the old bridge for the last time.

Lutie – Backwaters are up past Theodosia, and the bridge isn’t finished yet. Waiting for steel. Looks as though we are going to have to go a long ways around to get to Gainesville. We understand they will condemn the highway this week. We are hoping they can soon get back to work on the bridge so No. 80 will be open.

Caney – Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Ault and son have moved on their farm recently purchased from W. F. Dunham.
