40 YEARS AGO: Husband-wife vet team

NEW VETS - Dr. Robert Main and Dr. Robin Deck, the new operators of the Gainesville Veterinary Clinic stand with one of their feline friends in the clinic operating room. The doctors cover the full spectrum of veterinary medicine.

Oct. 16, 1985, Ozark County Times - Dr. Robert Main and Dr. Robin Deck, a husband-wife team of veterinarians, between them cover the full range of increasingly complicated veterinary medicine.

The doctors recently succeeded Brad and Mary DeBey at the Gainesville Veterinary Clinic on Highway 5.

Dr. Main is a native of Mills, New Mexico (near Raton), where he grew up in ranch country. He’s the large animal vet, cattle, horses, hogs.

Dr. Deck is a native of Kansas City. She is the small animal vet, from birds to dogs to cats.

They both took their DVM degrees as Kansas State University and first practiced in Tulsa, Okla., where they were associated with one of the nation’s most distinguished veterinary clinics. Their move to Gainesville was inspired by their love of the countryside, their friendly reception here and the fact they prefer life in a smaller community.

Quality of veterinary care is the doctors’ top priority, they say. By splitting the veterinary field, they are better able to stay abreast of the newest innovations in each side of the industry.

Robin is now offering a “cardio-pet” here for her dog and cat clients. Much like cardiograms for human patients, the information is transmitted via telephone to a large veterinary hospital where the cardiogram is run, giving the Gainesville Veterinary Clinic an instant set of data on the animal’s health.

The doctors hope to continue to bring the newest and most sophisticated technique to their practice here.

They confess they are animal lovers, and in addition to the doctors, the clinic is inhabited by four dogs and several cats.
