Lady Bulldogs end season with loss to Mansfield

Gainesville’s Lady Bulldogs took on number three seeded Hartville in the first round of  the Class 2, District 1 fall softball tournament and came away with a 17-15 victory. “It was back and forth the entire game,” said GHS coach Cody Swearengin. “The girls really played hard. We were aggressive at the plate and solid defensively. They were put in all kinds of positions and came away with an exciting first round victory. We ended up having 19 hits and only 1 error.”

Lori Ellison went 4 for 5 at the plate with a double, triple, two singles and five RBIs. Natalie Kiger, Peyton Donley and Cassie Carlo each had three hits.

In the second round, the Lady Bulldogs lost to number two seed Mansfield, 11-0.

“I feel that we used so much energy and emotion the night before that we came out flat and just couldn’t get anything going,” Swearengin said. “Our attitude throughout the season was ‘let’s keep going,’ and the girls showed that by playing hard and giving us a chance to win in every game. Our season didn’t go the way we wanted it to, but every girl got better as the season went on. Thanks to all our fans, and to Subway for making sandwiches for our away games. Thanks to our seniors, Aspyn Britt and Emily McKinzie, for providing leadership and working hard every practice and every game. It was all much appreciated.”
