Wilma Fern Upton, 85

Graveside servies for Wilma Fern Upton, 85, of Springfield, were held July 12, 2021, at Lutie Cemetery in Theodosia with Dale Roberts officiating. Ms. Upton died July 8 in Springfield.

She was born June 25, 1936, in Locust, the daughter of Ted and Daisy Mahan Upton.

She graduated in 1955 as valedictorian of her Gainesville High School class. She earned a bachelor’s degree from what is now Missouri State University in Springfield and a master’s degree from what is now the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. She was a high school English teacher and librarian in Independence, and a librarian at Gainesville High School.

She loved country music. Her favorite group was Mother Maybelle and the Carter Family,

She is survived by nieces and nephews Linda Lamphear and husband Bob, Kim Ledbetter, Alex Ledbetter, Jay Lamphear and Craig Lamphear.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mary Reba Ramsey; and her brother, Paul Upton
