Philip D. Bovat, 78

Philip Bovat, 78, of Isabella, died Jan. 23, 2021, at Gainesville Health Care Center in Gainesville. Following his wishes, no service or calling hours will be held here, but a celebration of his life will be held later in Vermont.

He was born Aug. 10, 1942, in Fairfield, Vermont, the son of Clarence and Laura Langevin Bovat. Mr. Bovat was a longtime resident of Vermont prior to moving to Missouri in 2018 with this wife to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. He was a retired farmer and carpenter, and he loved to hunt and fish. Fishing was a passion he shared with his grandson, the late Shane Fortin; their family likes to think they are now sharing a favorite fishing hole to see who can catch the biggest fish.

Mr. Bovat loved being around his family and telling them stories of his younger days. He liked a good argument and loved to complain. He had a heart that reached out to many over the years. He will be missed dearly.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Susan Webb Bovat; his son, Donald P. Bovat of Fairfield; his daughter, Norma Bovat Fortin and husband Arthur of Isabella; his granddaughter Leah Fortin Tatera and her husband Ricky T of Gainesville; great-granddaughter Violet Kennedy Tatera; sisters-in-law Betty, Muriel and Opal Bovat; several nieces and nephews (he would call each one of them his favorite, and each held a special place in his heart); and many cousins he thought dearly of.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Ronald, Alan, Larry and Lawrence Bovat; sisters Lorraine Bicknell and Arlene Couillard; and grandson Shane Fortin.

Arrangements by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville.
