Paul 'Doug' Frazier, 86

Visitation for Paul Douglas "Doug" Frazier, 86, of Mount Vernon, was held Feb. 6, 2026, at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard, Illinois, followed by a graveside service at Union Chapel Cemetery in Girard. Mr. Frazier died Jan. 31, surrounded by his family, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mount Vernon.

He was born Oct. 29, 1939, in West Plains, the son of Charles Edward Frazier and Lois Morrison Frazier of Ozark County. He grew up here on a farm on Bryant Creek.

In 1964, he married Gloria Maxine Shipp, and they enjoyed 55 wonderful years together until her passing on June 11, 2019. They had two children, David and Paula.

Doug's family also operated Upton Confectionary stores in Miami and Globe, Arizona, and they would often move to Arizona to work when times were hard on the Ozark County farm. Doug graduated from high school in Miami, Arizona.

He joined the Navy in 1961 and served as a radioman based in Stockton, California, where he met his wife, Gloria. Later, they moved to West Plains where he worked several jobs, finally landing at Eaton Corp. as a manufacturing engineer while also earning a degree from what is now Missouri State University in Springfield.

Upon retirement, Doug and Gloria sold their house, bought a big RV and spent 17 years traveling the country, visiting relatives, friends and fellow Navy buddies. Doug enjoyed keeping up with RV forums, helping Gloria research genealogy and exploring Europe and Canada. They especially enjoyed spending many wonderful winters parked in the Melbourne Beach Florida RV Park overlooking the ocean, celebrating life and playing pony canasta with a great group of unforgettably crazy, loving and supportive friends.

Doug is survived by his son, David Alan Frazier and wife Lisa of Grimes, Iowa; his daughter, Paula Jean Frazier of Springfield; grandchildren: Jessica Stillings (Cole Whittemore), Zachary Miner (wife Kelsey), Olivia Lamb (David Freitag), Garrett Lamb and Zoe Frazier; great-grandchildren: Brynn Stillings, Ryker Cole, LillyAna Whittemore, Everly Miner, Maddy Whittemore, Autumn Whittemore and Cloey Whittemore.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents, Charles and Lois Frazier; and his brother, Mearle Frazier.

The family extends thanks to the caring staff at the Missouri Veterans in Mt. Vernon as well as Seasons Hospice in Springfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Veterans Home, 1600 S. Hickory St., Mt. Vernon, MO 65712.
