Patsy Sue Tackitt, 83

Funeral services for Patsy Sue Tackitt, 83, of Caulfield, were held March 16, 2023, at Elijah Church of Christ. Burial was at in Elijah Cemetery.

Mrs. Tackitt died at 2:43 p.m. March 10, at West Vue Nursing Center, surrounded by her family.

She was born Oct. 10, 1939, at Rockville, Indiana, to Cecil Martin and Ruth Penn Martin.

On March 1, 1955, she was married at South Bend, Indiana, to Billy Joe Tackitt.

Patsy was a lifelong homemaker. She was a skilled quilter, baker and enjoyed canning produce picked from the family garden.

Most of all, Patsy enjoyed spending time with those who called her wife, mom and Granny. In fact, family gatherings would consist of more than 50 people and five generations with Patsy sitting at the head of the table. After years of answering to “Granny,” Patsy earned a new name of “Baby Granny” when her grandson-in-law picked her up and moved her in place for a family group photo. Her 2-year-old great-grandson pointed and said “Look, it’s a Baby Granny!”

While many took care of her physically, Patsy will be remembered for having great mental and emotional strength, providing advice and a level head through the most trying times. She raised her daughters to be strong, independent women while also being compassionate and loving. Patsy believed that being a homemaker also meant that you learned to become a jack-of-all-trades, and so that’s how she will be remembered. Talented. Strong. Loving.

She is survived by her husband Billy Joe Tackitt of Caulfield; two sons, Bailey Tackitt and Windell Tackitt, both of Caulfield; three daughters, Ruthie Lee and husband Craig of West Plains, Missie Tackitt of Caulfield and Susie Williams and husband Charles Lee of Caulfield; 13 grandchildren: Chrisy Barnes of Pomona, Zac Brewer of Springfield, Laura Collins of West Plains, Billy Ely of Aurora, Melody Hubbell of Caulfield, Sara Judd of West Plains, Melinda Martin of Caulfield, Aaron Tackitt of Carbondale, Pennsylvania, Brook Tackitt of Kelowna, British Columbia, Jenalee Tackitt of Kelowna, British Columbia, Paul Tackitt of Caulfield, Ty Joe Tackitt of Caulfield, and Lexi VanDomelen of Portland, Oregon; eight spouses of her grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill Martin of Bakersfield; two sisters-in-law, Blanche Langston Hardin of Caulfield and Edith Tackitt of West Plains; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, her son and daughter-in-law Freddie and Kathi Tackitt, her great-grandson Bryan Wake, four siblings: Mary Brown, Louise Nelson, Claude Martin and C. Dale Martin, nine sisters-in-law and 22 brothers-in-law preceded her in death.
