Opal Lea Maynard, 86

 

Funeral services for Opal Lea Maynard, 86, of West Plains, were held July 15, 2021, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home in West Plains. Mrs. Maynard died July 11 at Brooke Haven Healthcare in West Plains.

She was born Feb. 2, 1935, in Willow Springs, the daughter of Carl and Jessie Ellison Ford. On March 16, 1965, in Miami, Oklahoma, she married Ozark County native Sam Maynard. 

Mrs. Maynard took pride in hard work. She worked at Rawlings for 22 years and later was head housekeeper at Holiday Inn for many years. She loved to work in her yard, mowing, planting and growing her flowers and gardens. She also loved spending time with her family and going to gospel singings.  

She is survived by her son, Sammy Maynard and wife Elizabeth of Pomona; daughter-in-law Robin Jordan of Columbia; four grandchildren, Leslie Squire of Branson, Krista Lair and husband Heath of West Plains, Jenna Wintemberg and husband Derek of Columbia and Morgan Maynard of West Plains; seven great-grandchildren, Kourtney, Hunter, Brett, Connor, Mason, Jax and Gryffin; two sisters, Wilma Earls of Thomasville and Louise Webster and husband Don of West Plains.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who died March 24, 2008; her daughter Jan Squire and son Pete Jordan; son-in-law Danny Squire; sister Maxine Ross; and brothers Carl “Bud” Ford Jr. and Jim Ford; and brother-in-law, Charles Earls.  

Burial was in the Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Brooke Haven Activity Fund and may be left at or mailed to Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, 211 W. Main St., West Plains, MO  65775. Online condolences July be expressed at robertsondrago.com.
