Joni June McCosh, 59
A graveside funeral service for Joni June McCosh, 59, will be held at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 15, at the Houx Family Cemetery in Ocie. A visitation service was held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City.
She died Dec. 6, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was born April 25, 1962, in Kansas City, the daughter of John Alfred Houx and Juanita June Houx. She grew up on a small farm in south Platte County and had a wonderful childhood alongside her brother Shawn Houx.
Joni graduated from Park Hill High School in 1980 and earned an associates degree in early childhood education from University of Central Missouri.
She went on to work for the Park Hill School District after graduating college and became the Program Specialist at Park Hill Community Education, overseeing the early childhood program and Adventure Club for the district. She later started her own graphic art endeavor, We’ll Design your Sign, where her real talents were revealed.
Joni met her husband, Joel McCosh, in the summer of 1979 at the Platte County Fair. The couple were married for 37 years and had one son, John Dylan McCosh. They enjoyed traveling, competing at the American Royal World Series of Barbecue: a livestock, horse and barbecue competition. The McCoshes also enjoyed showing and road racing Ford Mustang cars, as well as traveling to different Amateur Trapshooting Association’s trap shoots with their son Dylan. The McCoshes also enjoyed spending time at Stockton Lake where they both had planned to retire.
Joni enjoyed spending her free time crafting, horseback riding, sunbathing, spending time at county and state fairs and spending time with family and friends. She served on the Platte County Fair Board as treasurer and was a stockholder. She often spent her weekends at the family farm in Theodosia and at Stockton Lake.
Joni was a force larger than life, with a heart of gold. She brought joy to all she met with her charismatic personality and loud laughter. She inspired many people and charged through life picking up all those who needed her extra love and support. She was always there to cheer people on and help them believe in themselves. Joni gave her time and effort freely and had many talents. She always gave the best advice, loved to entertain, could make or craft anything she put her mind to and had a deep love for her family including her Platte County Fair family and her many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Joni is survived by her husband, son, brother and his wife Dana, niece Taylor Houx, brother-in-law Kevin McCosh and wife Kris, brother-in-law Brian McCosh and wife Patsy, brother-in-law Doug McCosh and wife Brenda, many close friends and all of Joni’s Platte County Fair family.
