Helen Irene Rowland, 91

 

Graveside funeral services with full military honors for Helen Irene Rowland, 91, of Gainesville, will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024 in the Gaulding Cemetery. ,

She died Aug. 2, at Gainesville Healthcare Center. She was born Jan. 25, 1933, in Nottinghill, to Olin and Alice (Baker) Turner.

Helen grew up in her grandparents’ house in Nottinghill before entering the United States Army in 1951. She proudly served her country during the Korean Conflict, earning the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. After her honorable discharge in 1959, Helen became a licensed practicing nurse while living in Las Vegas, Nevada. She moved back to the Ozarks and continued her LPN career working for Cox Hospital as well as St. Johns (now Mercy Hospital) in Springfield, until her retirement. 

She resided in Nixa until health reasons brought her back to Gainesville in recent years. She was an avid reader, loved to go hiking and always kept her faith in Jesus. She was loved and will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.

She is survived by one son Jim Turner of Las Vegas, Nevada; three grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son Daniel Rowland; and several siblings.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville.
