Gavaughna Smith, 90

 

Funeral services for Gavaughna Marie Smith, 90, of Gainesville, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel in Gainesville. Officiating will be Wayne Stewart. Visitation will be on Wednesday afternoon from 1 p.m. to service time. Burial will be in the Smith Chapel Cemetery.

She died Jan. 8, 2025, surrounded by family. Gavaughna was born Sept. 21, 1934, to Fred and Ella (Nemeth) Smith in Rockbridge. 

Gavaughna married Alvin Junie Smith in November 1952. She was a graduate of Gainesville High School. She and Junie followed work, which took them to Stafford, Kansas, Springfield and St Louis before returning home to Gainesville in 1971.

They had one daughter, Deborah Kay, and two sons, Jeff and Darin. Gavaughna spent most of her life as a devoted mother, grandmother and housewife. Her favorite things were spending time with her kids, grandkids, sisters, nieces, nephews and family. She also enjoyed cooking, watching Hallmark movies and watching baby and cooking videos on Facebook.

Gavaughna is survived by her sons: Jeff (Becky) Smith and Darin (Jessica) Smith; grandkids: Colby, Dustin (Kylan), Logan (fiance Monica), Jacob (Shyla) and Victoria; sisters: Evalee (Ralph) Young and Delores James; brother-in-law, Denny Coatney; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Deborah; her parents: Fred and Ella Smith; husband, Junie Smith; sisters: Arlene Eccardt and Doris Coatney; and brothers-in-law: Roger Eccardt and Sonny James.

 Arrangements are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville.
