Garry Hawkins, 81

 

Celebration of life services for Garry Adkisson Hawkins, 81, of Theodosia, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. June 30, 2024, at the VFW in West Dundee, Illinois. 

He died May 16. He was born July 7, 1942, in Eldorado, Illinois. He grew up in Illinois, moving to Elgin as a young adult. 

In 1968, he entered into the United States Army. He served two years abroad and then returned to Elgin. Garry’s working years were invested in the construction industry as a drywall hanger and finisher. When he retired from his trade, he enjoyed a quieter life and time with friends, especially daily get-togethers at the Elgin coffee shop. He was also most at home in the outdoors, and hiking, fishing and hunting were some of his favorite pastimes. Garry was a talented photographer and enjoyed sharing his photography with others.

He is survived by daughters: Diane Hawkins and spouse Josh Voeks of Theodosia, Valerie Owens of Chicago, Illinois, and Cherise Garcia and spouse Mario of Crystal Lake, Illinois; his brother, Larry Hawkins and his spouse Carolyn of Mountain Home, Arkansas; sister Sandra Sharp and spouse Keith of Mountain Home; grandchildren: Rene, Josh, Karissa, Madeline and Jacob; and great-grandchildren: Landon, Maddox and Dmetri.  

Garry was preceded in death by his parents, Menard and Sylvia Hawkins.

Cremation is in the care of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home & Crematory, Branson.
