David Anderson III, 88

David Anderson III, 88, of Bakersfield, died Feb. 20, 2024. A requiem mass was held March 1, at the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Mountain Home, Arkansas.

He was born Dec. 21, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, to David II and Eleanor Ahlquist Anderson.

David loved to sing. He grew up singing at Nazarene churches and starred in several productions by companies in operatic roles and many concerts.

He was the paid Montview Presbyterian Church bass player in Denver, Colorado, for 17 years and toured Europe in 1985 with their choir. Later, he served as music director at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Aurora, Colorado. He also tutored several aspiring singers.

Most of all, David greatly loved all his family and extended family. He dearly loved to talk to total strangers and was a genuinely kind person.

David is survived by his wife of 32 years, Diana Hamby of Bakersfield; stepbrother Phill Walters of Longwood, Florida; son David Anderson IV of Orange Park, Florida; daughter LeeAnn Faar of Jacksonville Beach, Florida; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to Grace Anglican Church in Fleming Island, Florida, or to the Olivet Nazarene University’s School of Music.
