Danny Lee Russell, 79

A memorial service for Danny Lee Russell, 79, of Seymour, will be held 1 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2026, at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home in Seymour. Chaplain Dave Perry will officiate at the service.
He died at his home in Seymour, on April 11. He was born on July 28, 1946, at Dora, to Claude Raymond Russell and Iva Bell (Freeman) Russell.
Danny grew up in Dora and remained there until he enlisted into the Marine Corps.
Later, he married the love of his life, Margaret Sue Ince, on July 27, 1968, at Gainesville, after returning home from his military service.
Having worked as a log cutter for several years, Danny later worked for Emerson Electric in Ava until they closed their doors in the late 80s. He then went back to cutting logs and did so for many more years, until he physically couldn’t any longer.
Danny loved to go fishing and hunting. When he hunted, it was mostly for squirrels and rabbits. He was known for having a sweet tooth and often enjoyed a big handful of M&M’s. Watching his westerns on television was one of his favorite past-times. But above all else, Danny truly cherished his family. He adored his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Danny is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Sue Russell of Seymour; sons: James Mincks, Lee Russell (Trish), and Lucas Russell, all of Seymour; brother Dean Russell of Hohenwald, Tennessee; sister Ina Bell Friend (Ed) of Noble; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other loving family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Randall Mincks; and three sisters: Rosell Lee, Rosemary Russell and May Hines.
Memorial contributions may be made in Danny’s name to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org/donate.
