Daniel D. 'Danny' Hayes, 81

 

Daniel Dean “Danny” Hayes, 81, of Bakersfield, died peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loved ones, on Thursday, May 14, 2026. There will be no services, per Danny’s wishes. 

He was born Nov. 19, 1944, in Bakersfield, the son of the late Truman and Edna Hayes. He graduated from Bakersfield High School.

Danny was one of a kind and will be remembered and missed by all who knew him. He was self-employed and worked as a carpenter for many years, building several homes in Bakersfield and more than 80 homes in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was also a cattle farmer and enjoyed working on the farm. He was an important member of the community and played a big part in the growth of the town. Most prominently, he was a business owner for many years, having owned, built and operated many business ventures, including Hayes Laundromat, Hayes Café and Hayes Grocery, which was the social hub of the Bakersfield community. 

He was a member of the Bakersfield Assembly of God congregation and also a member of the Oddfellows Lodge in Bakersfield for several years. 

Danny enjoyed telling stories and visiting with his friends, family and customers. He loved taking road trips with his boys and talking about his past adventures over the years. He was proud of all he accomplished. 

Danny is survived by his sons: Larry Marsh and wife Bobbie of Calico Rock, Arkansas, Jason Marsh and wife Kelly of Bakersfield, Tony Schaab and wife Jessica of Bakersfield, and Richard Hankins and wife Tabitha of Bakersfield; one brother, Jerry Hayes and Connie of Batesville, Arkansas; a sister, Omega Marvin of Sun City West, Arizona; brother-in-law and special friend Donald Amyx of Gainesville; sister-in-law Carolyn Hayes of the Springdale, Arkansas, area; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Edna Hayes; three brothers: J.W. Hayes, Tom Hayes and Bob Hayes; three sisters: Ethel Hayes, Julia Ann Amyx and Mary Sue Hayes; and one brother-in-law, Cal Marvin; and two sisters-in-law: Lorene Hayes and Gladys Hayes. 

Burial was in the Bakersfield Cemetery in Bakersfield.
