Carol Dean Rowbotham, 83

A graveside service for Carol Dean Rowbotham, 83, of Protem was scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today, July 21, 2021, in Protem Cemetery. Mrs. Rowbotham died July 17.

She was born May 14, 1938, in Welch, Oklahoma, the daughter of Edgar and Cordella Dugger Davis. On Dec. 2, 1956, in Payson, Illinois, she married Gene Rowbotham. Together they raised five children in Quincy, Illinois, while working for Motorola. In 1975 they moved to Protem to take over the Pioneer General Store from her parents. They successfully ran the family business until passing it down to their daughter Lisa Jennings in 2004.

Mrs. Rowbotham was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law and friend. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid reader and was always ready to play any type of cards or games. She enjoyed going to sporting events, Branson shows, traveling and shopping. She especially loved singing in the choir at church, and she had a passion for cooking.

She was her family’s rock, their voice of reason and positive influence, and the calm in time of storms.

She is survived by her husband, Gene; their five children, Geff Rowbotham and wife Jackie, Lora Sanders and husband Doug, Lisa Jennings and husband John, Tammy Bechtel and husband Les, and Tim Rowbotham and wife Molly; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Protem Cemetery Fund.
