Analie Newman, 85
A service honoring the life of Analie Sonja (Sumner) Sheppard Newman, 85, of Gainesville, was held March 9, 2024, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville. Burial was at the Gainesville Cemetery.
She died March 6, at Baxter Health in Mountain Home, Arkansas.
She was born on Aug. 21, 1938, in St. Louis, to Zelma Leona (Smith) Sumner and Charles Curtis Sumner.
Analie dedicated her life to nurturing her family, raising six children and creating a warm and loving home. Her talent for sewing was renowned, as she crafted extravagant dresses for various occasions, including weddings and the annual Hootin and Hollarin festival. She also immersed herself in community service, serving as a member of the Gainesville fire department auxiliary and even holding the position of board president at one time. Analie's love for animals, particularly cats, was evident to all who knew her. She was also a devoted member of the Eastern Star.
On Nov. 26, 2011, Analie married Duane Leon Newman, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her six children: Russell James Sheppard, Terry Lynn Sheppard, both of Gainesville, Douglas Eugene Sheppard, Bryan Edward Sheppard of Forsyth, Billy Joe Sheppard of Hermitage, Tennesse, and daughter Peggy Sue Walrath of Gainesville; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister Janice Barciszewski; and brother William Sumner, both of Poplar Bluff.
Analie was preceded in death by her husband Duane Leon Newman; parents Charles and Zelma; brothers Charles Sumner, David Sumner; sisters Leona Zurbriggen, Rosalie Rheer and Elizabeth Sumner.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville.
