Squires man arrested while attempting to meet teen girl

Landon Wiese, a 23-year-old Squires man is currently being held in the Douglas County Jail without bond after he was arrested by police at an Ava city park, for allegedly attempting to meet a 16-year-old girl for sex.

According to the probable cause statement, prepared by Douglas County Sheriff’s Lt. James Nelson, on Aug. 13, the deputy was made aware of a concerning situation between Wiese and a teenage girl after an individual with whom the girl confided in came forward to police, the report says. 

The person who reported the situation said that they had personally observed ongoing Snapchat and text message threads between Wiese and the girl, which were sexual in nature. After receiving the information, Lt. Nelson contacted the girl’s father, who agreed to meet him at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office with the girl for further discussion on the matter. The girl reportedly told the officer that she’d been told Wiese had been in contact with multiple other underage girls that she attended school with.

The girl reportedly told Lt. Nelson that she added Wese on Snapchat approximately two weeks prior, and he had accepted her invitation. The girl then accessed and read the Snapchat and text messages between her and the man to the officer while discussing the matter. The officer noted that user name of the person replying to the girl on Snapchat was “Wieselandon” and the messages mentioned plans for a sexual encounter.

Lt. Nelson continued to speak with the girl and her parents at the sheriff’s department, and they signed a consent waiver allowing the officer access to the cell phone, the report says. The girl then sent Wiese a message asking him to pick her up at a city park in Ava. Landon reportedly responded and advised that he would. 

“While awaiting Landon’s arrival, he messaged [the girl’s] phone, stating that he was in the area and did not see her at the park. Landon messaged again asking if he was being ‘punked’ Landon sent an addition message stating, ‘like I’m really not trying to catch a case.’” Lt. Nelson wrote in his report. 

Lt. Aaron Box was also quoted in the report, “At approximately 11:50 hours, I Sergeant Aaron Box, was sitting stationary near the predetermined meeting location in an unmarked vehicle and observed a white in color Kia SUV approach the location. As the vehicle drove by the park, I observed its brake lights activate and slowly pass the park. 

“At this time, I entered onto the city street and approached the vehicle, which I discovered possessed a Missouri license plate… registered to Stacie Wiese. It should be noted that I was able to identify the operator as a white male. 

“I notified Lieutenant James Nelson and advised him to approach my location in his marked patrol unit. 

“As I followed the vehicle down several city streets, Lieutenant James Nelson arrived at my location when the white Kia SUV, and I approached the intersection of Johnson Avenue and State Highway 5.

“At this time Lieutenant Nelson activated his emergency red and blue lights to initiate a traffic stop with the Kia SUV. As I exited my unit, I identified the operator as Landon Wiese by previously observing his Department of Revenue photograph.

“Landon Wiese was removed from the vehicle and placed into double-locking handcuffs. 

“I advised Landon that he was under arrest for the enticement of a child and placed him in the secure portion of a patrol unit. I then advised Landon of his Miranda Rights, which he advised that he understood. I asked Landon if his phone was on his person; he advised that it was in his vehicle. I also removed items from Landon’s pants pockets and discovered that he possessed an unopened box of Trojan condoms in his pants.”

Wiese was transported to the Douglas County Jail, where he has been held since. He is charged with the unclassified felony of enticement of a child (21 years of age or older with child less than 17 years of age) and the class E felony of attempted statutory rape. 

A bond order shows that in court Wiese told the judge that he had “no idea she was under 17.” He is ordered to have no contact with the victim through any medium whatsoever, and he is also ordered to have no contact with any other unrelated juveniles under the age of 18. If a bond is eventually set and he can post it, he will be required to be under the supervision of Court Probationary Services with monitoring of all of his electronic devices.
