Sarah ‘Maxine’ Strong Luttrell, 90
Funeral services for Sarah "Maxine" Strong Luttrell, 90, of Gainesville, were held Friday, July 24, 2026, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel in Gainesville. Burial was at Howard Ridge Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Jim Frye, Cooper Friend, Hudsyn Friend, Thomas Lawson, Bub Davidson and Scott Cantrell.
She died on Sunday, July 19, surrounded by the love of her family. Maxine was born to Saul Strong and Maggie Lawson Strong on Aug. 2, 1935, and was raised in rural Ozark County. She later made her home in Ohio, where she spent most of her adult life.
A devoted homemaker, Maxine found her greatest joy in caring for her family. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoyed working word search puzzles and was well known for making the best fried potatoes, a meal her family will always remember with love.
Maxine will be remembered for her loving heart, quiet strength and unwavering devotion to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will live on through the many lives she touched.
She is survived by her daughter, Victoria Carter Holland and her husband Gary; her son, Roger Carter and his wife Stacey; her grandchildren: Sheri Friend and Scott, Davin Friend and wife, Kasey; her great-grandchildren: Logan Alsup, Cooper Friend, Gentry Alsup, and Hudsyn Friend; several great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends who will cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Saul and Maggie Strong; her son, Ronald Carter, and an infant son; brothers: Woodrow Strong, Verdon Strong, Herschel Strong, Saul Strong Jr.; and sisters: Mary Hensley, Ikie Henderson, and Gracie Davidson.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville.
