Man hit with second domestic assault case with allegations dating back to March 2023
Donnivan D. Davis, 26, of Gainesville, was arrested Jan. 9, in a second case that has been filed against him recently for domestic assault. He had been held in jail since that time and was scheduled for a bond hearing at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Results of that hearing were not available at presstime.
According to the probable cause statement, prepared by Ozark County Sheriff’s Lt. Matt Rhoades, around 6 p.m. March 18, 2023, he and Deputy James Fountain were dispatched to County Road 800 for a “civil standby” request. The reporting party, who had called 911, said that Davis had threatened to shoot her and anyone else that showed up at the residence. She said he then shot his firearm once into the backyard of the home.
When the officers arrived, the woman told them that Davis was her boyfriend and they had been living together for less than a year. She said there was an argument, and she left the house several days earlier. She returned to the resident to get several items, she said, and Davis became physically violent.
“He pushed her onto their bed, grabbed her by the hair and dragged her off the bed, hitting her head on a dresser drawer, causing swelling to the back of her head,” the report says. “He then picked her up and pushed her into the closet. Her back struck the wall and left a hole in the drywall. She then ran out of the residence, and he threatened to shoot her or anyone else with her that came to the residence. Donnivan shot his firearm once in the back yard.”
Davis reportedly told the officers that he did shoot one round out of his shotgun on the back porch. Rhoades located the shell casing and secured the shotgun and a .22 rifle they found. The officer noted in the report that there was a large hole in the wall of the closet and drywall dust on the carpet where the woman said she’d be pushed into the wall.
Davis was charged in another domestic assault case this month concerning a Dec. 29, 2023, incident detailed in last week’s edition.
