Max Wells, 90
Graveside funeral services with full military honors will be held for Max Wells, 90, of Gainesville, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, 2022, at the Lilly Ridge Cemetery with Bobby Jo Wade officiating.
Max died at his home on Dec. 8. He was born on April 13, 1932, in Paragould, Arkansas, to Mary Lois Wells. He attended High School in Paragould.
Max was married Martha (Marty) Davis on Jan. 19, 1957, in Creve Coeur, Illinois. They resided in Peoria, Illinois where they raised two sons – Duane and Gary.
A carpenter by trade, Max worked for Becker Brothers Construction in Peoria for over 37 years until retiring in 1996. Upon retiring, they moved to Gainesville in 1999 to be closer to good fishing.
Max was an avid fisherman, and when the weather was nice, he and Marty could always be found in their bass boat fishing Bull Shoals. Although he loved fishing, he would get a little agitated at times because Marty always seemed to out-fish him. When not fishing, Max loved puttering around the yard and making sure that the hummingbirds, golden finches, cardinals and other birds were well fed.
He also kept his rifle nearby to make sure the squirrels didn’t eat all of the bird food. Max loved to walk and could always be seen walking the roads by his house. He had a great sense of humor and always loved a good joke.
Most of all, he was the most caring and loving husband, father and grandfather that anyone could ever ask for, and he will be missed by everyone that was fortunate enough to have known him.
Max is survived by his wife Marty of Gainesville. They have been married over 65 years. Other survivors include his son Gary and his wife Caryn of Chicago, Illinois, two grandsons: Jason Wells of St. Louis and Mathew Wells of Galesburg, Illinois, two great granddaughters: Deanerys and Talia Wells of Galesburg, Illinois, and two nieces: Cheryl Davis of Peoria, Illinois, and Chris Bizier of Toronto, Canada.
He was proceeded in death by his mother, Mary Lois Wells of Pekin, Illinois, his sister, Barb Mellies of Pekin, Illinois and his son, Duane Wells of Pacific.
