Bulldogs advance, girls lose

The Gainesville Bulldogs beat Cabool in the opening round of district tournament action on Saturday. The Bulldogs compete in the Class 2 District 10 tournament at Cabool, along with Ozark County schools Dora and Bakersfield.

The Bulldogs beat host Cabool in the battle of the Bulldogs, 57-39.

Individual statistics from that game were unavailable at press time, and the Bulldogs were scheduled to play Seymour as the Times went to press Tuesday night. Seymour advanced from the first round by beating Dora. Look for results from Tuesday’s game in next week’s Ozark County Times.

In other boys’ action last week, the Bulldogs lost to Hartville in their final regular season game, 45-39.

In that game, Jake Leeker led Gainesville with 11 points, followed by Landry Jenkins with 10 and Bryce Hambelton with 7. Hambelton also pulled down 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Others scoring for Gainesville were Easton McGee with 5, Wyatt Alms with 4 and Camden Evans with 2.

Hartville also won the two-quarter JV game 23-9, ending the JV Bulldogs season with 10 wins and 11 losses.

Harmon Johns led Gainesville’s JV squad with 5 points, while Garrett Taber and Jarett Hogan each scored 2.

Speaking about the varsity game, Gainesville coach Morris Jenkins said  it was a “hard-fought game” against the Eagles that came down to “a little better shooting night at the free throw line and from the field by our opponent. I felt like our guys competed hard on both ends, but we just needed a few more shots to fall at different junctures of the game.”

The Gainesville Lady Bulldogs lost in the first round of the district tourney to Seymour, 44-27.
