Deanna Leigh Smith, 51

 

Graveside memorial service with full military honors for Deanna Leigh Smith, 51, of Fordland, formerly of Ozark County, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022, in the Fowler Chapel Cemetery in Caulfield.

 She died Jan. 5, 2022, at Cox South Medical Center in Springfield. 

She was born July 11, 1970, in West Memphis, Arkansas, to Leon and Peggy Bucie Barron.

Deanna moved to the Ozarks with her family in 1977. She graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1988. 

She then joined the Army serving as a medic with the 335th Medical Company as a medical specialist.

She worked sixteen years in healthcare, seven years in insurance/risk management and two years as safety trainer in the pipeline industry. 

She graduated from Texas A&M in February 2015 as a certified safety and health official. In 2016 she was hired as safety manager at DeWitt & Associates in Springfield.

On March 19, 2010, Deanna married Darren Smith. 

She enjoyed raising cattle, camping, traveling, spending time with family, friends and her dogs.

She is survived by her husband; her mother Peggy Plachy; her brother Eddie Barron; and numerous extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death her grandparents Hollis and Orene Barron, Ed and Vetrice Bucie; her father Leon Barron; sister Tonya Lee Barron; two aunts Kay Carter and Mary Watson; nephew Ed “Bubba” Barron; father-in-law Ed Smith; and sister-in-law Kathy Barron.

 Arrangements are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville.
