Work begins on new WWTF

City Maintenance Supervisor Mike Davis said that contractors have begun the process to build the city’s new wastewater treatment facility.

“They’ve started laying blocks on the new building and making pretty good headway. They have a new generator pad poured and pad for other electrical stuff coming along good,” Davis said. “They also started in on repairing and replacing sewer pump stations. We had one go out this past weekend and had sewer stopped up [on Highway 181].”

The more than $1 million wastewater treatment facility upgrade is part of a larger $6 million project through the Department of Natural Resources American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The work on the WWTF is being completed by John Adams Construction of West Plains, as it as the sole company to bid on the project. Their bid of $1,115,018 was accepted during the September 2024 city council meeting.

Saddle Club contract expected to be signed soon

Clerk Lisa Goodnight said that she spoke with the Gainesville Saddle Club recently about ongoing negotiations for a contract involving the club’s lease of the city’s land where the Saddle Club Arena sits on Main Street. Goodnight said the club is agreeable to the stipulation that the city would have the option to purchase the cook shack and bleachers in the future if anything happened and the club stopped its lease there. Goodnight said once that’s been added, she expects all parties from both the city and Saddle Club will sign the contract.
