Wasola infant in ICU after sustaining serious injuries in crash on Highway 5
Dawna, infant daughter of Wasola residents Darci and Jordan Dimirsky, is currently on a ventilator in the pediatric intensive care unit of Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City with serious injuries she sustained in a Sept. 7 crash on Highway 5 at Wasola.
Dawna's grandmother, Lisa Pellham, told the Times Thursday (Sept. 12) that Dawna had sustained a skull fracture and multiple facial fractures, among other injuries, in the collision. She was airlifted to Cox Hospital in Springfield, where medical professionals determined that Dawna's injuries were extensive. A flight crew from Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City flew to Springfield to transport the baby girl to the hospital in Kansas City, where she has remained in the intensive care unit. Pellham said that doctors hoped to take Dawna off the ventilator Wednesday night, but she had several seizures that has prevented the removal. She was given seizure medications and is currently still on the ventilator as of noon Thursday.
Lisa said that the family has been very appreciative of the donations and prayers that have been extended to the family. Donations will be used to help ease some of the financial burden Dawna’s parents may endure from being away from work for an extended period to be with Dawna at the hospital.
