Owner of The Antler discusses recent ditch clearing, asks for speed limit sign

Mike Gardner has been clearing out trees and brush alongside Third Street opposite The Antler Package and Pizza.

The Antler Package and Pizza owner Mike Gardner attended the city council meeting to discuss recent improvements, including trimming trees and cutting brush back from Third Street across from the restaurant, along with dirt work that formed additional parking on that road’s shoulder. Gardner asked permission to clear the ditchway closer to Harlin Heights Drive, as he said that water comes down that road and jumps into The Antler’s parking lot. He said he’s trying to divert the water better so it doesn’t jump the road into the parking lot.

Gardner also asked if speed limit signs can be posted on Third Street in that area, as he said they’ve had people driving really fast by the restaurant. The council said the speed limit on that street is 25 miles per hour, and a sign is posted further down the street. He said he thinks additional signage near the restaurant would be beneficial for those turning off Highway 5. Some of the council members agreed with him. The mayor and council said there is a real issue with speeding all over town. They urged him and anyone else experiencing it to call the sheriff’s department to report the speeders.
