Letters sent out for tall grass

City employee Jessi Price says the city has sent out a first round of letters asking residents who have not mowed their lawns this year to do so, as they are in violation of the city’s nuisance order otherwise.
The city council discussed other nuisance order violators, which include properties with uninhabited homes or garages that are falling in, yards with junk piled up and homes, yards and properties that are left unkept. If those who are warned do not comply with the nuisance order, they can be prosecuted.
Price also confirmed that the owner of a home that sits at Sixth and Main Streets in Gainesville has been served papers related to the prosecution of the nuisance order for the significantly disordered property. The council has discussed the property over the last several months, and the owner has received several warnings, written and verbal.
