Ballpark bridge needs work

Maintenance Supervisor Mike Davis recently discussed damage on the low water slab bridge on Main Street near the turn off to the summer league ball fields.

Davis said a large chunk of concrete washed out in the recent heavy rains, which had been blocked off with barricades. He said the city crew could fill the hole with cold mix as a temporary fix, but it won’t last when another heavy rain comes through. (That spot has now been patched up.) He said it needs an “apron,” a transitional area poured over both the road and bridge to keep the material from washing out, where the two meet.

City Clerk Lisa Goodnight said that Toth & Associates is the city’s engineer on record, and she would reach out to them to see if they could look at the bridge and make a recommendation.

Davis clarified that the city is responsible for the low water bridge there, but the county is responsible for the higher bridge that crosses the creek in that area.

Fire Chief Kevin Piland said as an added note that he found some of the city’s barricades all the way at Nofork Lake near the Missouri-Arkansas state line after they washed away. He said he was able to fish one out and retrieve it.
